Rug Trends

The latest trend in floors is hard flooring, with more people choosing hardwood or tiles for their Homes. With all the beautiful wood available, and a dizzying array of tiles, including metal ones, this trend seems hard to resist.
However, wide expanses of bare floors can make an interior feel cold and unwelcoming. This is where a strategic placement of rugs can help. They help define areas, muffle noise, and provide warmth. While doing all that, they also greatly enhance the aesthetics of a room, providing a finishing touch.
Both contemporary and traditional styles are popular right now. The contemporary rugs are beautifully designed with abstract, organic patterns or stripes and ethnic elements. The patterns we most often see are configurations of dots, diamonds and vines. There is an emphasis on drama and scale in the design. The colors are either very deep and rich such as greens, gold, indigo, browns and purple, or a dramatic white and black. Restful shaded neutrals with subtle textures are also present.
Shaggy rugs have reappeared and they have never looked so luxuriously modern. You can also see a lot of zebra stripes, in white and black, as well as other colors. Hand knotted and hand tufted silk and wool made in Asia, provide depth and comfort.
There is a growing interest in indoor/outdoor rugs as outdoor rooms increase in demand. New technology enables these rugs to resist fading while they retain their softness and beauty even under the harshest of conditions.
